What is salmon DNA microneedling?
PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide, a bioactive compound derived from salmon DNA. In a skin context, it is used to support tissue repair, collagen synthesis and hydration.
Microneedling creates fine channels in the upper layers of the skin using very small needles. This controlled response encourages the skin to produce collagen and elastin as it heals. Applying PDRN serum during treatment allows it to pass through those micro-channels rather than remaining on the surface.
What it may help with
Results vary depending on your skin, age, lifestyle and the number of sessions completed. The treatment may help with:
- Dull or tired-looking skin — PDRN supports hydration and cellular turnover, which can help skin look more awake and refreshed over time.
- Uneven skin tone — The combination of collagen stimulation and improved microcirculation may help to even out patchy or discoloured areas.

A consultation is required before your first treatment. We review your skin, medical history, medication, previous treatments and healing tendencies before confirming suitability.
What to expect during treatment
A numbing cream is applied before treatment and usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes to take effect. Sensitivity varies, but most clients find treatment comfortable once numbing is in place.
The PDRN serum is applied before and during microneedling. The sensation is typically described as mild warmth or pressure. Your skin is cleaned carefully beforehand, and aftercare is explained before you leave.
Afterwards
Redness similar to mild sunburn is normal and typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. Minor swelling, especially around the eyes or cheeks, can occur and usually resolves within 24 hours.
During the initial healing period, avoid heat, direct sun exposure, retinol, acids and abrasive skincare. Light makeup can typically be worn from 24 hours after treatment, although minimal skin preparation is recommended for a few days.
Results and treatment courses
Results develop gradually. Changes in hydration, texture and overall tone may become noticeable over the two to four weeks after treatment.
Individual results vary and no outcome can be guaranteed. A course often produces a more meaningful improvement than one session. A typical starting point is three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with a personalised recommendation given at consultation.
Who may not be suitable
Suitability is assessed properly at consultation. This treatment is unlikely to be suitable in the following circumstances:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active skin infections, open wounds or inflammatory skin conditions in the treatment area
- Certain blood-clotting disorders or medication that affects healing
- A history of keloid scarring
- Recent injectables, chemical peels, laser or other skin treatments in the area
- A known allergy or sensitivity to salmon or fish-derived products

What is PDRN?

Is this the same as a polynucleotide injection?
No. Injectable polynucleotides are placed beneath the skin with a needle or cannula. With Salmon DNA Gold Microneedling, PDRN serum is applied topically and delivered through the micro-channels created during microneedling, so it works at a shallower depth.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your skin and what you would like to achieve. For many clients, a starting course is three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Your recommendation is confirmed at consultation.
How is this different from standard microneedling?
It uses the same microneedling process, combined with topical PDRN serum during treatment. This adds regenerative support alongside the skin's natural response to microneedling.
Is there a fish allergy risk?
Yes. Because PDRN is derived from salmon, this treatment is not performed on clients with a known fish or salmon allergy. Allergies are checked at consultation.
