What is carbon laser facial?
A thin layer of medical-grade carbon lotion is applied and allowed to settle into the surface of the skin, including the pores.
The laser is then passed over the skin. The carbon absorbs the laser energy, and as it is broken down it takes surface oil, debris and dead skin cells with it.
The controlled warmth also delivers a gentle stimulus to the skin, which is why many people notice a temporary brightening and refinement after treatment.
What can it help with?
- Dull, tired-looking skin
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Excess surface oil and congestion
- Uneven surface texture
- Pre-event skin preparation
Treatment areas
- Full face
- Face and neck
- Back (assessed at consultation)
What happens during treatment?
- 01Consultation to review your skin, medical history and suitability.
- 02The skin is cleansed and eye protection is worn by everyone in the room.
- 03Carbon lotion is applied evenly and left to settle.
- 04The laser is passed over the skin in controlled passes to remove the carbon.
- 05Skin is soothed, SPF applied and aftercare explained before you leave.
Consultation
A consultation is required before your first treatment so we can assess your skin, review medication and confirm the treatment is appropriate. A patch test is arranged where indicated.
What does it feel like?
Most people describe a warm, light tingling with a mild snapping sensation as the carbon is removed. It is generally well tolerated and no anaesthetic is needed.
Treatment time
Around 30–45 minutes.
Recommended course
A single treatment can be used before an event. For ongoing concerns such as congestion or texture, a short course spaced a few weeks apart is usually suggested, with occasional maintenance.
Downtime
Mild redness or warmth for a few hours is typical. Most people return to normal activities immediately and can wear make-up the following day.
Results
Skin usually looks brighter and feels smoother straight away, with pores appearing more refined. Results build with a course and are maintained with good skincare and sun protection. Individual results vary.

Frequently asked questions
Is a carbon laser facial the same as a Hollywood peel?
Yes — the carbon laser facial is often marketed as a Hollywood peel. The treatment is the same: carbon lotion applied to the skin, then removed with laser energy.
How soon before an event should I have it?
Two to three days before an event is a comfortable window, though many people have it the day before. We will advise based on how your skin responded to previous treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
One treatment gives a temporary brightening effect. For texture, oil or congestion, a short course is usually recommended and confirmed at consultation.
Is it suitable for acne-prone skin?
It can help with surface oil and congestion in some cases, but active or inflamed acne needs assessment first. We will tell you honestly if another treatment is more appropriate.
