What Should You Do Before Laser Hair Removal?

Preparation makes a real difference to comfort, safety and results. Here is what matters before your appointment.

Shave — don't wax

Shave the treatment area closely within about 24 hours of your appointment. Hair above the surface absorbs energy at skin level, which is uncomfortable and less effective.

Waxing, plucking, threading and epilating remove the hair root, which is the target of the treatment. Avoid these for the period advised before your course starts and throughout it.

Sun, sunbeds and fake tan

Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tan for the period advised before treatment. Tanned skin — including from fake tan — changes how light is absorbed and increases the risk of an unwanted reaction.

If you have been on holiday or used self-tan recently, tell us before your appointment rather than on arrival, so the visit can be rearranged without a wasted trip.

On the day

Arrive with clean skin in the treatment area: no make-up, deodorant, oils, moisturisers or perfumed products.

  • Shaved within 24 hours
  • Clean, product-free skin
  • Any medication changes declared
  • Comfortable clothing for the area being treated
